Teddy

— Christian is a happy child. He is also six years old and he has not been with his parents for six years. He is in the care of his grandmother because his father and mother work abroad. Even an only child, he is able to have fun with his toys.

With the help of Skype and other social networking sites, Christian is able to talk to her parents. In her generation, children are very good at using laptops, tablets and cellphones, communication is no longer that difficult.

“How are you, baby?” his mother asked while talking.

They are on Skype.

“I’m okay, mommy. How about you?”

“Daddy and I are okay here, baby. We miss you.”

“I miss you more, mommy. When are you going home?”

“Soon, baby. Soon.”

Ever since Christian was born, her grandmother has taken care of her. Christian’s parents decided to work abroad to give their only child a good life. By the grace of God, Mr. and Mrs. Cruz and all of Christian’s needs they provide.

“Baby, have you received your birthday gift from mommy and daddy?”

“Yes po. Lola gave it to me a while ago. Thank you, mommy. Thank you, daddy.”

“You’re welcome, baby. We love you. You liked it?”

“Of course, mommy. Anything from you and daddy.”

But Mrs. Cruz noticed his son who doesn’t seem to be really happy. As a mother, she probably felt there bothering Christian.

“What’s wrong, baby?”

“Nothing mommy.”

“Does your toy already have a name?” It changes the subject.

Christian is so young, he always gives him a name the toys his parents give him. Previously, five Robots of different sizes and looks were given to him by his father and mother, he named them Aye, Bee, Sie, Dy and Lee. The stuffed dog he called Rainbow. All the names he gave to his toys have a origin. He listens to others on TV shows he watches or so the names of his classmates.

“Yes, mommy. He has a name.”

Mrs. Cruz who will once again be the name of the big teddy bear that they gave to Christian.

“What’s his name, baby?”

“He’s Teddy.”

“Why Teddy?”

“Because he’s a teddy bear.”

Mrs. Cruz just laughed when he heard that but could still see the blank expression on Christian’s face.

“Baby, do you really like Teddy? Are you really okay?”

“Yes, mommy, I am. I like Teddy very much.”

“Just like that? Don’t you love him?”

“Uhm I’ll think more, mommy.”

“Why? Teddy’s a gift from mommy and daddy. We love you, Son.”

“Because mommy, Teddy can’t talk. I always asked him, when will you come back here. He didn’t talk. I asked him, why did you and daddy stay there for so long without me? He didn’t talk.”

Mrs. Cruz could not speak.

“Mommy, I always hug Teddy so tight. Like this oh.”

He grabbed Teddy and immediately hugged him tightly.

“But mommy, he can’t hug me back. He can’t hug me like what a mommy and daddy can. I saw my classmates with their mommies and daddies. They always hug and kiss them. Mommy, I asked Teddy to do it for me but he can’t. He can’t, mommy, He can’t be you and daddy. ”

Mrs. Cruz kept crying because of what his son said.

“I love you, baby. Daddy and mommy loves you very much.”

“Christian loves you too, mommy and daddy.”

Christian’s lips touched the laptop screen to kiss his mother.

“Christian, time to sleep.” said his grandmother.

“Mommy, I have to go. Lola’s calling me na. Bye-bye. Please kiss daddy for me. I miss you. I love you po.”

“I will, baby. I love you and goodnight.”

When Christian was lying down, he immediately hugged Teddy.

“Thank you, Teddy, for not leaving me. I love you.”

As she closed her eyes, the tears of a longing child fell into the embrace and kiss of her parents.

Healthy Weeknight Meals

Cooking can sometimes feel like a chore at the end of a busy day. It’s often tempting to throw a ready meal in the oven or call for take out. But preparing a simple and healthy family meal doesn’t have to be hard or time-consuming. Here are some quick wholesome dishes that you and your family will love. They can even be prepared in advance.

Breakfast at my House

During the week we’re often walking out the door with a coffee in one hand and slice of toast in the other, but on weekends breakfast is never rushed. It’s a late affair, sometimes spilling over to lunch, with lots of reading and chatter in between courses of fruits, poached eggs, honey and toast. One of our favorite things we like to serve when friends are visiting are buckwheat blueberry pancakes.
